Reflection:
In reflection, this was such a good opportunity to connect
with undergraduate students at California State University, Long Beach.
Furthermore, CSULB only has a 3.2 Black student population and essentially, it
is critical for those students to feel affirmed and wanted as they navigate
their college experience. Ultimately, most of the student felt that they
weren’t being affirmed let alone did they feel like they had spaces or
people/organizations on campus to further support them. They felt as if they
identity was hidden on campus, so essentially, the purpose of the dialogue and
representation of each Black Greek organization was to find out what the needs
of the students were then align those needs with what each organization
provided and sought to do to help them. It was a great turn out! We had about
60 students showing up learn more about each organization and most of the
students had questions and vital responses for us to further the conversation.
I personally had the opportunity to work on my public speaking as well. This
was a really critical experience as I look to further my speaking capabilities.
Also, I had a young brother come up to me asking about what it was like for me
being from Compton and going to a Cal State in process of furthering my education
while dealing with hardships. I was able to connect with him and give him some
critical insight on my experience. He even called me the following day to learn
more about how he could stay connected with me and my organization.
