SWiBAT attend the fair in hopes to gain better understanding of diversity

Student attended the fair but did not gain further insight on the importance of diversity to a student’s institutional experience

Advanced: I chose advanced because after attending the fair, I began to implement diversity chats at the local middle schools that I work at. I even held a student diversity panel with college studens that served on the panel and students in middle school were able to ask them questions about their culture and their lived experiences.

Reflection:

The Unity Fest was a great experience. This was my second opportunity to partake in the unity fest. The Unity Fest definitely stands out among one of my favorite events on campus. It serves as the platform for students from on campus , in the surrounding community and for internal and external resources to come out and spend the day on campus. Those who attend are able to experience many different cultures, and learn about them. The amount of people of various ethnic decent that showcase their various traditions, foods, dances, and languages are shared throughout the whole event.  I had the privileged to volunteer during this event and it was definitely fun. I helped direct students to various cultural booths and helped them engage with some of the vendors their, also I led a campus tour for a group of middle school students that participated in the event. I definitely enjoyed that process because for some of the students, it was their first time on a college campus and some informed me that they were so happy that they were able to view some of the different aspects of a college campus.
