Reflection:
The Male Success Alliance at Cal State Dominguez Hills are doing great work in terms of developing, challenging, and supporting students. Challenging students is essential to their development but it must be followed with support to make sure the development is occurring and students understand that their growth is important to others. (Sanford, 1962) In preparation for the Career and Job that took place a week following the mock interviews, many students felt well prepared and understood the importance of meeting possible employers and engaging in professional dialogue. Students learned the importance of doing research on prospect careers/jobs of their interest prior to meeting or interacting with anyone from the prospect employment. Students were able to exchange information and also followed up via email to sustain relationships with employers from the fair. For me, it was great to practice not only being the interviewer but also giving feedback to the students on what things they could improve on. Some of the tips discussed were, demeanor , professional attire, story telling, and knowledge of self.
