Portfolio Narratives

Narrative- Leadership In relation to the values and ethics of our profession, I strongly feel that my personal values align in comparison. In terms of leadership style, I personally connect with Burn's Transformational Leadership Theory (1978). To describe, this theory in effort, tries to transform followers into leaders themselves, and so I believe that it is vital and necessary to have clear values and principles. When looking at 5 ethical principles that ACPA outlined for the profession, what stands out first is faithful and fidelity. I truly believe it is important to be faithful, in my personal and professional life, I try to be as transparent as possible. In addition, another principal is autonomy . I truly believe this principle is important not only within the profession but also in our communities. We have to make sure we respect and value individual's values, beliefs, and their autonomy. National Men of Color Conference Term: Spring 2017 Description: The mission of the Men of Color National Summit at Clemson University is to close the achievement gap for African-American and Hispanic males, from cradle to career. Bringing together approximately 2,000 high school and college students, business professionals, educators, government officials and community leaders from around the country, the summit will emphasize the importance of education, best practices and choices to increase high school and college graduation rates. The national conference will lead to awareness of the changing U.S. demographics by enhancing the experience of men of color through involvement and engagement, preparing them for a global mindset. College of Education Annual Research Symposium  Term: Spring 2017 Description:  The College of Education, the Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership Program (Ed.D.), and the Center for Research on Educational Access and Leadership (C-REAL) host an annual Research Symposium. The event features posters that identified solutions to educational problems based on applied research conducted by doctoral students from the P – 12 and Community College Leadership program specializations. The program includes a poster session by Ed.D. alumni, selected Master of Science students in the Educational Leadership Department, and other invited presenters. Presentation topics concentrate on P-12 and community college issues and implications for leadership, diversity, and access. Following the poster session, a panel discussion is held to further discuss their research and how the results of their studies can lead to different approaches to improving the research. MSA Student Leader Spring Training Term: Spring 2017 Supporting Students in linking their Strengths Description: The purpose of our Spring student leadership training is to further support our student leaders in their personal, professional, and leadership development. Essentially, my role was to conduct a workshop to help our student leaders begin to think critically about their strengths. My hope was to help student discover their most prominent strengths and talents. The purpose of my workshop was to help students build upon their talents and increased awareness of the strengths of their peers.
